Are You Budgeting for 2011?

I hope 2010 was a financial success for you!  If it wasn’t, what steps are you taking to improve your chances in 2011?

During the past year, my wife and I started using You Need A Budget to track our finances.  It has really helped us to stay focused on where our money is going, and I have to admit, we’ve made some serious progress!

YNAB works on four fundamental principles:

  1. Give every dollar a job
  2. Save for a rainy day
  3. Roll with the punches
  4. Live on last month’s income.

Ynab has several features that make it noteworthy.  Not only can you import your household bank or credit card transactions to more easily categorize them, but it also has a set of accounts designed for small businesses.  If you’re a small office or home-based professional, you might want to check it out.

YNAB retails for $59.95, but it does come with a 7-day fully-functional free trial period.  The download is free.  You only purchase the program after you decide it works for you.  I bought it.  I use it.   I recommend it.  However, more importantly, even if you don’t buy the program, check out his website.  The support he offers is incredible.  Everything from YNAB University to free online training.  And what he teaches there, and what you learn in the discussion forums, applies to any budget, whether you use his program or not.

Go check his site out and let me know what you think.  You can find it here.

If you’re already using YNAB, let me know what you think about it!

Thanks.  Be well.

John
